Volunteer Oppurtunities

Children/Youth Program Leader and Assistants – We need one person to take charge of this program for K-12 and at least 2 assistants to help out.  Circles USA has provided an excellent curriculum for us to use.  You will just need to prepare the lesson for the kiddos that we serve.  Time commitment:  5:30 – 8:00 on Tuesday evening plus prep time.  Perks:  free meal and fun!

Occasional fill-in youth teachers — These volunteers will fill in when the full-time volunteer teacher’s helper is unable to attend the regular Tuesday evening meeting.   You might get called in at the last minute if someone is ill or has an emergency.  Time commitment is from 5:30 to 8 pm on an occasional Tuesday evening.

Meal/Kitchen Volunteer — The shared meal is a very important element of the Circles program, where relationships are built among the Circle Leaders and volunteers.  Can you or a group that you are part of (or a group of your friends) provide a meal?

We are asking groups and individuals to provide, prepare and serve one meal for about 25 people (number includes 10 children).  The meal should include 1) main dish, 2) salad, vegetable or fruit, 3) dessert.  Coffee, tea and water are provided.

A full kitchen, including both convection and conventional ovens and commercial dishwasher, is available.  All dishes and utensils for serving and eating are provided. Kitchen is available by 3 p.m.; meal is served at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.  A kitchen manager will be there to assist you. Meal preparers/servers are encouraged to share the meal with us.

Circles Allies –Do you want to give back to the community by affecting another person’s life in a positive way?  Become a Circles Ally.  Circles of Greater Topeka needs community-minded individuals (Allies) like you to share their network, their knowledge and their friendship with people in the Topeka community (Circle Leaders) who are trying to get out and stay out of poverty.  All you need to be an Ally is a few hours a month to commit to helping other people better their lives. Allies are not mentors, but rather intentional friends with the Circle Leader. You will be joined by another Ally in being matched with a Circle Leader at the end of their training program.
